I'm in the same boat as most of you parents out there! On top of starting a brand new job (I'm so excited to work with your students by the way), my husband and I waited until the last minute to buy school supplies. We've been to 5 different places in search of #2 pencils! WHEN did #2 pencils become difficult to find? My 9 year old son is entering 4th grade. We went to pick up his schedule and were met with smiling faces and familiar teachers. All of them were so excited to see Jackson and that dear son of mine could barely find it within himself to crack a smile or utter a single congenial phrase. Of course my middle school daughter is only excited about returning to school so she can wear her new Converse tennis shoes (hint: parents, while your child is in elementary school take HUGE advantage of the fact that they are unlikely to care about brand names!). We'll see how her optimism develops over the next few weeks! :0/ My eldest daughter is at USC "rushing" sororities so she's in her own world, although she has been the source of hefty hits to our wallets as well. I've been so busy preparing for my adventure as an Aviator that I HAVE to remind myself that my time is the most powerful currency there is! We all need to breathe and spend these last few moments of summer being present and intentional with our children. Their childhood goes by so, so fast! This year, as in years past, I will be talking about the 7 Habits (of Highly Effective People/Children) with your student, along with several life skills that have been identified by colleges, employers, etc. as necessities for success in the 21st century. These habits will be integrated into core subjects as well as addressed specifically in classroom guidance and throughout the school's culture. Keep visiting the website to see how your student is learning these concepts/behaviors! I've included a source to help your student develop a positive mindset for those first days! Looking forward to meeting all of you.
