Lesson for 3/30/20 through 4/10/20: You can't go over it, you can't go under it....only through.

Hi everyone! It is hard to believe that we will be moving into the month of April this week. April is the Month of the Military Child. It is SO important to recognize the sacrifices made by the children of our service men and women! If you've ever had to change schools or frequently say goodbye to someone you love, you'll appreciate the courage this takes. My catchy title above will make more sense after you've seen this next lesson on our LIFESKILL of Courage.

Parents,

Please assist your student in navigating through the video lesson if needed (sorry..my video editing is a work in progress). I'm including some links below that are associated with the video because I'm not real sure how to ensure the link is "active" in a recorded Google meeting. Therefore I'm providing them separately for easier access and as a precaution (please see message to students below). It's so important to focus on the positives....my positive is that I am learning so much new technology that helps me stay connected to coworkers and students! Remember, I am here for YOU too. A Facebook friend shared this with me and I'd like to share it with you as a reminder that your job as a PARENT, not a substitute educator, is what is important right now. You're doing great! Also I've heard from some of you that your student might be showing some behaviors that are concerning. I'm including this iceberg graphic that might help you to understand how huge adjustments affect children (and adults for that matter).

Students,

I hope you are able to relate what we explore about courage to what we are experiencing in our world now. I encourage you and your parents to reach out to those who are working endlessly to keep us safe and healthy by saying "THANK YOU". One of our PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) members has provided a Google doc called "Hearts for Helpers" you can use to do so (click on image below). When this is completed and submitted, your messages of encouragement are shared with the doctors and nurses who are working hard to meet our needs. Often times we help ourselves by helping others. Encouragement is a way you can help others that might help you to feel like you have more control over what's happening around us. Also, I want to bring a little bit of school to you now...remember the red buckets outside of my office door where you could pick up requests to see me individually? There is a way to do so now electronically by using Google meet. So, if you want to schedule time for use to "see" each other, you can complete the form called "Request for Google Hangout with Mrs. Tanner" (click image below). When this is done, I'll get an email message and will then schedule a time for us to hang out. Once you've viewed this lesson can you do me a favor? I'd like to keep track of your social and emotional learning during this time. When you've completed this lesson, please complete the link below called "I Did It!" (have a parent help if needed). Enjoy the bookmarks related to the courage lesson (click picture) below for some relaxing coloring. If you want to watch the cartoon version of the book "We're Going on a Bear Hunt", the link is immediately below. I'm sorry! I've not figured out how to set the audio in Google meet so that you can hear embedded videos. I love and miss you all. I'll be seeing you! ~Mrs. Tanner
